A Texas man is being held at a San Antonio airport for violating his privacy after a US Customs agent told him to stop taking Viagra if he did not.

A man who illegally took prescription drugs, along with his partner, went to the US to be treated for an enlarged prostate, said Customs agent David Ehrlich.

"It is illegal to buy Viagra in the US without the prescription of the US Government," said Customs agent David Ehrlich.

The agent told him that he could not stop taking the drug, but a third of his Viagra pills were in his system.

The agent added that he was unaware that the man had taken any drugs while in the US.

"The man was aware that there was a problem in his system and that he was taking a medication illegally," Ehrlich said.

A doctor was told that the man had to be seen in the US for a couple of days before being told he had an increased risk of prostate cancer.

The man was arrested on suspicion of violating US pharmacy laws when he went to take prescription medication, he added.

The man was held without bond at the San Antonio airport, and U. S. Customs officials are still investigating the matter.

The man faces charges of violating US pharmacy laws, and a criminal charge of shipping fraud in relation to his trade in prescription drugs.

Ehrlich said: "It is illegal to import prescription drugs without the prescription of the US Government. The violation of US pharmacy laws is illegal, and it has caused considerable damage to the US economy."

Ehrlich, 45, from the Central Texas/Fort Worth area, was detained by the Port of Texas police in September 2004.
